The PH Spectrum: Understanding pH - The Water Tree Pearland
Recently, scientific developments have proven that the balance of health in our body is directly related to the pH levels of the water and blood circulating inside all of us.
When it comes to pH, most people know more about why this matters in a pool or aquarium than in our bodies. However, did you know that our bodies are mostly water and have to maintain a specific pH balance too? The food we eat and even beverages we drink also have a pH.

In fact, our blood is 83% water and has a particular pH of 7.365. Our body continually works to maintain that pH balance. If our blood varies more than .1 pH from that level, illness can quickly follow.

So what is PH?

All liquids have a degree of acidity, which is determined based on the pH scale. The pH, meaning potential of Hydrogen, measures the concentration of hydrogen ions within a liquid, which is expressed on a scale of 0-14, to determine whether an environment is acidic or alkaline. If its resulting value is below 7, the environment is considered to be acidic, and if it’s above 7, it’s supposed to be alkaline.

PH Balancing and Your Body

As far as the human body is concerned, a single pH value cannot accurately be established as each organ have separate, specific pH values that can range between acidic and alkaline levels.

Our bodies fight to maintain its natural pH balance by storing excess acidic substances in certain parts or organs, thus increasing their acidity. For instance, in a healthy body, the average blood pH value is slightly alkaline, ranging between 7.35-7.45, and the lungs and kidneys are responsible for maintaining this balance. Alternatively, the saliva has a pH ranging from 6.5-7.0, the human skin has a pH of 5.5, which makes it acidic, while the pH of the digestive tract varies from 1.5-7.0.

If the natural pH balance of our body is disturbed, by becoming too acidic or too alkaline; the healthy cells become toxic and damage the tissues inside the body, possibly even leading to their death or mutation.

According to many acclaimed research scientists and medical doctors, all diseases can be traced back to two simple problems:

  • Dehydration: Water is the fluid of life. When we become dehydrated, we reduce our body’s ability to process nutrients, vitamins, and minerals.
  • Over-Acidification: Our bodies prefer an alkaline environment. When acid builds up, it robs every available resource to maintain pH balance.
In a worst-case scenario, metastasis could occur, meaning that the dead cells remain acidic in the body, whereas the mutated or malignant cells continue to grow uncontrollably and spread to other parts or organs in the body.

So the critical question is, how does our body manage all of this acid?

Although not through ideal procedures, our bodies do have a way of dealing with all this acid: neutralization. The body plays a clever trick and leaches (removes) calcium and magnesium (alkaline minerals) from our bones to help offset the over-acidification.

The acid that can’t be eliminated or neutralized is stored in the body as solid waste and slowly poisons us over time, possibly constituting the development of “chronic low-grade acidosis.” This condition is the result of too much acid in the blood, associated with poor health outcomes including heart problems, altered hormonal status, and the loss of muscle or bone.

Modern American diets make use of a lot of sugar, caffeine, highly processed foods, and alcohol that are high in acidity. Consuming too many acidic foods and drinks can make the body overly acidic and eventually lead to a weak immune system, chronic headaches, fatigue, as well as many potential digestive issues.

In an ideal environment, we should be consuming a balance of foods that are at least 70 percent alkaline and 30 percent acidic, so that once its processed, the pH of the body will remain neutral.

Living an alkaline-based lifestyle such as this would help keep us pH balanced with the processing of foods and expelling wastes.

On the other hand, with the fast-paced nature of American life, we understand that being intentional about balancing the pH of your meals and drinks may get away from you. That’s why we suggest drinking Alkaline water when you are not consuming food that is not balancing your pH levels in the body.

Alkaline water can neutralize the acid in your bloodstream, playing a pivotal role in helping to keep the body’s pH balance in order and metabolizing nutrients more effectively, so that it can function properly and hydrate more efficiently.

Through proper nutrition habits and drinking alkaline antioxidant water, it is possible to maintain a healthy and disease-free lifestyle. That’s why, at The Water Tree, we specialize in alkaline water solutions to help improve every aspect of your life. Try us out!
