What is Alkaline Antioxidant water?

Many of us know that water is a pretty big deal— it is highly essential to our survival, next to air. From the water we drink to the water we bathe in, water is necessary to maintain good health.

Why is water so key?

If you think about it, regular water is practically a miracle drink! In fact, more than 60% of our bodies are made up of water, and staying properly hydrated is essential to every bodily function. Water is the best way to facilitate digestion, lubricate joints, push out toxins, prevent fatigue from dehydration, and give us energy.

Coffee, tea, and many soft drinks contain large amounts of caffeine, which helps to dehydrate the body. Dehydration can slow your metabolism and lead to weight gain, impair your mental abilities, and leave you feeling exhausted, hungry, and grumpy. Making sure to drink enough water is an easy way to flush toxins that accumulate from poor diet, stress, lack of sleep and lack of physical activity, to promote an overall sense of well-being and help you look your best. When you drink plenty of water, you keep your skin looking healthy and hydrated, as well!

Because of the impact that water has on our health, shouldn’t we make sure we are drinking the best water possible?

Let’s consider regular tap water first.

For many years tap water was the only source for our drinking water, but with a crowded, modern world that is more polluted than nature intended, the effects take a toll on our water. Even with chlorination and purification processes in place for us to have clean water to use, pollution in tap water has affected more people than one could count.

To make matters worse, according to the EPA, common water contaminants in US municipal water include microorganisms, disinfectants, inorganic chemicals (like arsenic, fluoride, lead, and mercury), organic chemicals, and even radiation!

Is this the kind of water you want for your family?

These pollutants in our water can hurt our well-being, but we can’t avoid our need for water—it is necessary for life! No wonder, so many of us feel concerned about increased pollutants and contaminants in our tap water.

Before we entirely downplay plain old tap water, the good news is that it’s quite safe compared to the water in many other parts of the world. According to Water.org, 750 million people around the world lack access to safe water— that’s approximately 1 in 9 people. So, first let’s appreciate how lucky we are to have access to clean, safe drinking water.

What water should I drink?

Alkaline water is by far the healthiest water available today. Drinking alkaline water can potentially provide many benefits to your overall health. There are several reported cases where it contributed to the alleviation of many ailments.

If you’re like most people that are just learning about this, you will probably be just a little bit skeptical. That’s ok!

Long before now, scientists and leaders have been on a quest to find the perfect, healthiest water for use by humankind. Overall, many decades of scientific and medical studies have gone into its development, and are revealing the great benefits alkaline water can provide. Some of which include increased hydration properties, abundant mineral content, and contains antioxidant properties.

So, what is Alkaline Water?

In short, Alkaline Water is any water that has a pH higher than 7 (usually starting around a level of 8 or 9) on a scale of 0 to 14, where lower numbers signify a more acidic rating, and higher numbers signify a more alkaline rating. It is less acidic than tap water— pure tap water has a neutral pH of 7, so it’s neutral like your blood.

Time for a quick chemistry lesson:

All liquids have a measure of acidity that is determined based on the pH scale. The pH, short for “potential of Hydrogen”, refers to the concentration of hydrogen ions in the liquid.

Things like black coffee, orange juice, and vinegar that land below seven are considered to be acidic, seven is neutral, and items above seven, like baking soda and 124, land safely within an alkaline territory.

A powerful antioxidant, rich in alkalizing compounds, including calcium, silica, potassium, magnesium, and bicarbonate, it protects your body from harmful free-radicals (positively-charged hydrogen ions) which hurt our immune system.

There are many antioxidants, but by far the most effective is the hydrogen antioxidant. (While we’re on the topic, read “The Miracle Water” to learn more about the excellent benefits to hydrogen antioxidant water specifically.) Alkaline water contains a high concentration of dissolved hydrogen antioxidants, compared to tap water, due to the process of natural ceramic conversion.

Is alkaline water really the best?

Our health is closely linked to the pH levels of the water and blood circulating in our bodies. Human blood is slightly alkaline with a standard pH of approximately 7.4. Generally, our bodies do a pretty good job of maintaining our pH levels within a tight range— A small fluctuation, even as little as .05, in our blood pH can have severe health risks.

The human body is complex, and claiming that everyone needs to “alkalize” is an oversimplification. For one thing, every single organ system in our bodies has a unique pH range that it maintains in various ways. Without knowing the underlying cause for low pH levels, you can’t determine whether alkaline water will help you.

A low pH contributes to an acidic body, which is a breeding ground for disease. If too much acid overwhelms the body’s ability to neutralize it, the blood will become acidic and can constitute the development of “chronic low-grade acidosis”. This condition is the result of too much acid in the blood, which can be associated with poor health outcomes including heart problems, altered hormonal status, and the loss of muscle or bone.

A higher pH in the body can reduce the need for fat and cholesterol to protect the body from damaging acids, which helps lead to fat loss and proper cholesterol management. Alkaline water can neutralize the acid in your bloodstream and help your body metabolize nutrients more effectively so that it can function like it should and hydrate more efficiently.
